About Susan E Hoffman

Susan, the chief designer for Pocono Graphic Design, has a Bachelor of Arts degree in fine arts and has worked in the graphics field for many years.

Prior to starting her own graphic design business, she applied her skills in design, computers, writing and photography as an editor and page designer for a local newspaper publisher. Because it was a small shop, she was responsible for many aspects of the production - sometimes a layout artist, sometimes creating original graphics, sometimes setting text or designing ads, sometimes conducting in-depth interviews and doing photography for both editorial and advertising purposes. She had to be involved in all aspects of prepress, to optimize jobs for commercial printing.

While working in the field of journalism she also honed her computer skills by taking classes online at LVSonline, eclecticacademy, and the now defunct ZD University and SmartPlanet. In addition, she took several courses in web design, networking, Java and JavaScript at New Horizons computer learning center.

Susan has had courses in such areas as Photoshop, Illustrator, DreamWeaver, Cascading Style Sheets, tableless design, XHTML and HTML, InDesign, Quark, PageMaker and many other programs and programming languages.

She also advances her skills by participating in online forums and discussion groups. Of these, she's found her participation in Women Web Designers, Photoshop, and Dan Margulis's Color Theory groups to be especially valuable, and recommends these to her colleagues. She is also a member of the National Association of Photoshop Professionals.

She was certified by Brainbench.com in Photoshop, Illustrator, HTML and PageMaker as well as High IT Aptitude [translation: "girl geek"].

But her experience is not limited to computer design. She also has a law degree and practiced law for more than 15 years, managing multi-billion dollar transactions and dealing with multi-national Fortune 100 clients. That is, until she gave up the corporate rat race to return to her true passion - design. But those years of legal work helped her gain experience in the realities of the business world and dealing with both large and small corporate clients, positioning her uniquely to understand the pressing needs of business.

This experience also helped hone her writing skills. She's published several papers and articles in legal, technical and lay journals, both in print and online. See some of her recent online travel writing:

Now she has brought all that experience and training to her own graphic design business to serve clients with high quality, affordable design solutions. Contact Susan to see if she can help you with your design solutions!
